Top restaurant New Zealand!
A real hidden gem! One of the best restaurants we visited in New Zealand. Food can match any top restaurant in Auckland or in Wellington. Very friendly couple running the place. 10-10!
Fantastic Meal
We had dinner at Down Thyme tonight. The food was outstanding, fantastic service and a lovely warm atmosphere.

Worth the (very small) detour off the road!
Two different New Zealanders friends from Waihi (I am French) told me that if I wanted to eat well I should go to Down Thyme, and I can say they were right! The sauce of my fresh shrimps for starter was delicious and the lamb I got then was the best I had in a very long time. And it was copious. And the people working there were all absolutely nice. Voilà!
Second time around
I can’t believe it has been 5 months since my last visit. I only visit Waihi a few times each year, and had promised to return after such a lovely meal last time. There is something special about this place. I met Mufide for the first time, as she was away on my first visit. She suggested I try the Efes beer, which reminded me of my visit to Turkey 38 years ago! The fish of the day was simply cooked and delightful and went well with the Pinot Gris, but the Baklava was the best, you have to try it. Thanks Roland and Mufide, I’ll see you on my next visit too.

Excellent food and friendly owners
Loved the authentic chicken shish with the unique Turkish flavours. The owners/chef were very friendly and eager to help with any dietary issues. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Waihi.
Excellent food friendly owners
This place should be in the NZ guide to best restaurants in random places. Food excellent. Chef knows his meat. Had pepper steak, lamb shish and baklava all excellent. Owners friendly and welcoming. Pleasant rural location 1min from main road through Waihi. Will be back.
Great food
Very authentic food off the beaten path with great views out over farmland. Outdoor garden could use a but of love and attention. Lovely service.
